Argonians are inspired by a wide range of reptilians. Some Khajiit are more akin to house cats while others have features similar to larger felines. Beast races were based of of real world animals.

Human races were based heavily off of actual ethnicties in the real world. Orsimer on the otherhand naturally look less appealing and more intimidating compared to the other mer.

To be specific on what this mod does in terms of the races, Elven races are meant to appear otherworldly and reflect their culture and homelands, so the Dunmer appear more grim in comparison to the otherworldly Altmer or the quick and spirited Bosmer. Some changes really emphasize aspects of not only their race but their personality (Glarthir and Thoronir). Some NPCs are still crazy looking but look a little less outlandish (The Adoring Fan). Some NPCs are quite beautiful or handsome (the Blue Team Gladiator, Claudette Perrick and Modryn Oreyn for example!) while others are uglier than before (Fathis Ules for example.). Every race now has more notable racial characteristics to set them apart even more, and every NPC in the game was edited based not only to match those racial traits but also based on a variety of factors such as their class, location, affiliations, and personality. Veritas Secreto (who many of you might know as the original creator of the TIE Overhaul) set out with a mission to fix Oblivion's NPCs without any custom textures or meshes, only the Construction Set character editor. This was the first NPC changing mod I ever used and I've become very accustomed to it. Most of these can be used together, especially if installed in the order I list them in unless specified otherwise. Now we come to what you've all been waiting for! Getting rid of those awful vanilla Oblivion faces.

I install this after my face mods as this does come with some high quality face retextures but elements of other mods combine well with these. Also included in this mod is Slof's Better Beasts which added claws to the beast races. My only issue is the tattoos on generic races like the Nords, Bosmer, and Orsimer, but thankfully Slof did release PSDs of these so its easy to make these for custom races or do tattooless versions for generic races. If its too much muscle for you, dont install the normal maps and just do the retexture and use the default Roberts maps. They also have normal maps which make the bodies INCREDIBLY muscular looking. Better Bodies is a retexture for Roberts bodies that gives even more detail and racial distinction (primarily represented through body hair) between the playable races as well as Daedric ones. For obvious reasons I'm only showing off the clothed variants.Īnother reason to use both of Roberts body mods is because of the magical world of AlienSlof's mods! Slof was modding since Oblivion's early days and her works was quite popular but she went off Nexus for a long time and just a few years ago finally put up her work onto the Nexus again! One of her finest works, in my opinion, would have to be Better Bodies. Let's fix that! Note that these bodies have both clothed and nude variants. Oblivion characters not only have potato faces but also some playdough looking bodies. I generally install bodies before faces so as to not overwrite them (with a few exceptions). Let's jump right in!īefore we do anything with faces, let's get to Oblivion's bodies. These mods are quite old but in my opinion they still hold up if you want to preserve the vanilla aesthetics with at least some level of enchantment. It's a fairly lore-friendly, especially when compared to the more anime oriented XEO or MBP 2ch-Ed++. I got a little nostalgic for my old faithful graphics setup for Oblivion characters I used back in the day. I actually plan on talking further about that version another day, whereas this list is dedicated to something different. I actually would recommend Oblivion Character Overhaul v1 over v2 which is a decent balance of enchantment and staying true to the art style. Although some NPCs look more attractive, a lot of them suffer from serious same-face syndrome.

They did my main-quest boys Baurus and Martin dirty and the Adoring Fan gives me the heebee jeebees. However if you're a Qarl's Texture Pack using old-timer like me who hasn't jumped ship to Katkat's beautiful rellacers and has a graphics setup is primarily based on The Oblivion Texture Overhaul (If you know what TOTO is you, like me, deserve a senior's discount) it can be a little jarring.Īlso there are several NPCs who look. It's good if you use a graphics setup like Bevilex. However I rarely use it due to the fact that I feel like it clashes with the game's art style, replacing it altogether rather than enhancing it.
